Artist's Statement
The most imperative part of my painting process is obtaining fresh and active layers of marks and color. My paintings explore the energy within many forms of life, as well as, the characteristics of seasonal changes. I frequently work with plant forms both abstractly and representationally. While many paintings contain recognizable plant imagery, some paintings are derived from the abstract idea of energy and motion. To achieve the visual suggestion of energy, I paint in layers to reveal a sense of depth and texture. In addition, I use high and low key colors to create contrast and visual emphasis within the composition. My objective for every painting is to reveal to the viewer the notion of life's stimulating energy.
Below is a sampling of some of the artwork that will be available for sale at the 2010 Festival of Flowers.
