K.I.M.
Kearley was born in Mobile, Alabama and has resided
there since. She graduated with honors from St.
Paul’s Episcopal School in 1977. Graduating
from Auburn University in 1982, she received a
Batchelor of Science degree in Environmental Design
and A Batchelor of Architecture. She was awarded
the outstanding student in Architecture from Auburn
University for her thesis work. After graduating
from Auburn University, K.I.M. served her apprenticeship
under Nicholas H. Holmes Junior, Architect. After
becoming a registered architect in the State of
Alabama, K.I.M has enjoyed working on a wide range
of projects both residential and commercial, restoration
projects being of particular interest.
Her artistic inclinations
have always been a driving force in architectural
work as well as a number of volunteer endeavors.
K.I.M. has contributed various logos, illustrations,
and paintings over the years to the fundraising
efforts of many organizations including the Senior
Bowl Regatta, Mercy Medical and UMS-Wright Preparatory
School. A member of several mystic organizations
and a sustaining member of the Junior League of
Mobile, K.I.M. serves on the Board of Governors
of the Mobile Carnival Museum.
K.I.M.’s
introduction to gardening came at an early age
since weeding was the punishment of choice for
misbehavior in her family. Unruly teenage years
resulted in quite a well maintained garden! Since
then flowers have been an enduring element in
her life. Whether arranging flowers in a vase,
a hat, or a canvas, they are the raw materials
of her favorite creations. Over the years the
art, outdoors, and architecture have steeped together
and flavored K.I.M.’s specialty in garden
and outbuilding design. “Gardens, Gazebos,
Arborebos, Wharfs, Cook Sheds, Terraces, Cabanas,
and Courtyards… outdoor spaces are where
the good times are spent and what my time is best
spent on.” says Kearley
“We are delighted that Kim Kearley has joined
the Festival of Flowers family", said Helen
Childers, Festival of Flowers Director. "Even
after years of collaborating with Kim, she continues
to amaze me with her whimsical artistry. One dash
of Beyond Belief! and
a generous sprinkle of Kim Kearley equals a week
of magic.”
