2008 Festival's Choice

The Festival of Flowers is pleased to announce out 2008 Festival's Choice plant selection.

This program was conceived by the Mobile Horticulture community for selection of plants of outstanding merit for home gardeners in our distinctive region. Their shared characteristics include hardiness, disease and pest resistance, and ease of growing.

These plants will be sold exclusively on site at the Festival's Choice Booth in the vendor area.

• Description: A magnificent shrub, very compact, upright with   dense growth
• Mature height: 8’ to 10’
• Bloom: a strong, pink and fragrant profusion. Winter bloom,   profuse and prolonged flowering habit, increased sun   tolerance with ample moisture.
• Foliage: attractive dark green foliage year round.
• Heat and disease resistant

Camellia Tiny Princess Japonica
• Bloom: delicate pink peony form fragrant flower
• Foliage: slow, spreading distinctively bronze
• Grows well under evergreen trees, near buildings
• Perfect for a border or against a fence wall

Camellia High Fragrance
• Flowers are medium size and are full flowers are medium   size and are full
• Fragrance can be ascertained from 20'-30'
• Light to medium shade and can even withstand full sunlight
• Very strong grower for vigorous upright growth

Acanthus Summer Beauty
• Mature height: 30” spread: 4’-6’
• Blooms: purple calyces on 6’ spikes surrounded by
   white flowers
• Foliage: deep green, shiny with deep lobes
• Growth habit: clump forming
• Sun: full or partial shade
• Soil: humus rich, moist, well drained
• Feeding: side dress with compost or manure
• Characteristics: heat tolerant, attractive to butterflies and   bees, found in southern Europe esp. Turkey, England, Asia   and the tropical forests of Africa

• Mature height: 1’ to 1.5’ spread: 1’ to 1.5’
• Blooms: continuous from spring to frost. white, pink and   rose at once very fragrant
• Sun: full to partial shade
• Water: medium wet
• Maintenance: low, insect and heat resistant

Veronica p. ’Georgia Blue’
Veronica "Georgia Blue" is one of those few perennials at their peak in early spring, is reddish-green in spring, fading to dark green and turning bronze to ruddy purple in autumn and winter.
• Mature prostrate height 4-6", spacing 8-12".
• Creeps and spreads quickly to two feet wide or more to
   form a dense, compact mat.
• It prefers moist, slightly to moderately acidic soil with   excellent drainage
• Highly attractive to butterflies s
• Profuse showy brilliant violet-blue flowers with white
  centers
